Rev. P. Bonny Resu, General Secretary of APBF visited the Convention of Indonesian Baptist Churches (CIBC) in November 2016. CIBC a member of the APBF with its headquarters at Pontianak has 71 local churches and 156 preaching points in West Kalimantan. The total number of CIBC churches all over Indonesia would be 220 local churches and 12,000 baptized members, with roughly a community of 30,000. CIBC was a major partner with APBF/APBAid during the 2005 Tsunami relief efforts at Nias Island off Sumatra.
During the visit, Rev. Resu had meetings with the leadership of CIBC in the West Kalimantan led by Rev. Sperry Terok, President of CIBC and Principal of the Kalimantan Theological Seminary of the CIBC. He also visited the Agape Patria High School at Sosok run by the CIBC of about 300 students, considered to be a premier school of the town.
Narrating his experience Rev. Resu said, “Significantly I realized that many of the key leaders and workers at the seminary are from Manado, Sulewasi. One could term it as a mission venture by Baptist Christians of Sulewasi. It is an impressive ministry amongst mostly non-Baptist community.”
