Singapore Baptists opened our arms wide and extended our tropical welcome to more than 2,500 delegates from 64 countries gathered for a transforming experience at Suntec Convention Centre from 17th to 21st July 2013. Held once every five years, the Baptist Youth World Conference, organised by the Baptist World Alliance has been a life changing catalyst for many youths to respond to the call to make Jesus Christ their Lord.
The Conference with the theme “REACH”, provided the young participants with a great opportunity for a spiritual encounter with the living Christ through vibrant worship, faithful proclamation of inspired scriptures, focused training, sharing of life-transforming testimonies and global friendship.
The investment in the lives of the young delegates will never be wasted. The strength of the Lord sustained every worker He called. The reward was great from the moment we witnessed the youths from all over the world gathered under one roof, fellowshipping and worshipping in the presence of the Lord. Nothing compared to the joy of seeing them grow deeper in love with the Lord, being matured and transformed by the Word and becoming what the Lord wants them to be - the new generation who will stand up for Him and His Gospel. What an extraordinary experience! The smiles, the exchanges, the raising of hands in worship, the excitement and the love that was so evidently shared among young believers for a long, long while.
The 16th BYWC has come and gone. It had been an incredible journey of faith, grace, patience and unity. There were numerous testimonies of young people being challenged, blessed and transformed. These were all the work of the Holy Spirit. I am eternally grateful for the exceptional understanding, support and labour of love of every volunteer who helped to host the event. The Baptist World Alliance leadership, International Program Committee and the conference delegates enjoyed and appreciated the hosting services rendered by the volunteers. I salute all the 460+ volunteers who laid aside their personal interests to serve the global Baptist youth community. Baptist volunteerism is very much alive in our community. We must find ways to consolidate and continue this spirit of spiritual service to advance God’s Kingdom and for His glory.
